Sequoia 6, Los Altos 5
The grand slam parade just keeps trucking down Brewster Avenue, as the Ravens (14-10) powered to another late comeback victory to top visiting Los Altos (11-14). Trailing 5-0 in the fourth, Sequoia got on the board with a solo home run by senior Mario Fausto. But the big blast came in the fifth, when Mario’s twin brother, senior Nolan Fausto, came to the plate with the bases loaded and promptly went grand salami over the center-field wall to tie it 5-all.
It marks Sequoia’s fourth late-inning grand slam of the season to either tie or win a game.
Junior catcher Connor Murray then got in on the power shot, leading off the sixth with a go-ahead solo home run that proved to be the game-winner. It’s the second home run of the year for Murray, who hit his first varsity bomb Friday. He has now homered in back-to-back games.
Half Moon Bay 3, Santa Cruz 0
Right-hander Tristan Castro became the third straight Half Moon Bay starter to record a shutout, as the Cougars (15-9) claimed a non-league win at Santa Cruz (13-10). Making his third start of the year, Castro went the distance, allowing five hits and one hit batter, while striking out three to earn his first varsity win. The junior was hyper-efficient, needing just 68 pitches through seven innings, 46 for strikes.
Junior Cole Giannini went 2 for 3 with an RBI triple, while juniors Lane Giannini and Paxton Holden also drove in runs.
Holden was the shutout hero in Friday’s 6-0 win at Aragon, going the distance for his first career victory. Senior left-hander Kai Kung started the streak last Wednesday with a two-hit shutout in a 5-0 win over Aragon on the Coastside. HMB pitching has now gone 26 straight innings without surrendering a run.
Menlo School 3, Sacred Heart Prep 2
Menlo (16-9) got on the board in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from junior Matthew Majalya, sophomore Liam Widner added a sac fly in the third, and sophomore Fletcher Cahill notched an RBI single in the sixth as the Knights took care of business in non-league play at rival Sacred Heart Prep (18-7). Sophomore right-hander Reid Plamondon allowed one run on two hits through 4 1/3 innings to earn the win, improving his record to 4-0. Widner worked the final two frames to save it. Juniors JP Durrett and Thomas Barton drove in runs for the Gators.
Mills 14, Hillsdale 13
The Vikings (5-17) snapped a nine-game losing streak with a wild back-and-forth win at Hillsdale (10-14). Mills’ six-run rally in the third inning was the game’s third and final lead change, with sophomore Ethan Wong lifting a sacrifice fly to score Tyler Yuan with the go-ahead run. Junior Tino Janke had two hits with a double and four RBIs for the Vikings, Wong added a double with three RBIs, and junior Joshua Huei tabbed a team-high three hits. Hillsdale senior Hugo Guzman went 4 for 5 with an RBI, lifting his average to .342, and senior Martin Gehlhar clubbed his first varsity home run for the Knights.
In other action ...
Woodside (13-10) scored seven times in the fourth to overcome an early five-run deficit and win it 11-7 at home against More-San Jose (11-12). Senior Cruz Torres tallied his third home run of the year for the Wildcats.
Burlingame (16-9) rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth to earn a 6-5 comeback victory in non-league play against Heritage-Brentwood (14-7-1) at Washington Park. Slade Flores delivered the go-ahead run with an RBI single, then fired a scoreless seventh to earn his first varsity save.

Baseball
Carlmont 4, Burlingame 3
The Scots (7-5 PAL Bay, 12-12 overall) played spoiler in the PAL Bay Division race, rallying in the bottom of the seventh for a walk-off victory, snapping a six-game league winning streak for first-place Burlingame (9-3, 15-9).

Trailing 3-2 in the last of the seventh, Carlmont sparked a rally with a one-out single from senior Ryan Weiss. Junior Vishnu Iyer followed with an RBI triple to score pinch-runner Zayden Luzzo. Then after two walks to load the bases, Burlingame cut off a run at the plate on an infield grounder for the second out, but the catcher uncorked an errant throw on the play to bring home junior Connor Chow with the game-winning run.
Iyer finished with two hits and two RBIs. Burlingame senior Preet Mallen was 2 for 2 with two RBIs, and junior Mark O’Grady added two hits with an RBI. Carlmont junior Ryan Kelly earned the win with one scoreless inning of relief, improving his record to 2-0 in four appearances.
King’s Academy 4, Menlo School 2
King’s Academy-Sunnyvale (7-5 PAL Bay, 14-11 overall) all but ended Menlo’s PAL Bay title hopes with the win at Cartan Field. Third-place Menlo (7-5, 16-9) now falls two games back of first-place Burlingame with two games to play, while second-place Menlo-Atherton is a half game back of first.
Serra 8, Riordan 3
Right-handers Kolby Clair and Aiden Waters each made their first pitching appearance since April 1, and the Padres (7-5 WCAL, 17-7 overall) finished off a two-game sweep of Riordan (0-12, 7-18) in San Francisco. Clair opened with three shutout innings to earn the win. Waters bridged it with 1 1/3 scoreless frames of relief. Jack Wessell went 2 for 4 with a home run for Serra, and Ayden Beal added a single with two RBIs.

Menlo-Atherton (8-3 PAL Bay, 12-12 overall) trailed by four runs in the fifth, but scored three in the fifth and three more in the sixth to win 6-4 at home against Capuchino (2-10, 12-13). Freshman Oliver Coupe tied it with an RBI single, and freshman Owen Coupe gave the Bears the lead with two-run double. Senior starting pitcher Caden Lewis went the distance to earn the win, improving his record to 5-0.
Hillsdale junior Parker Jessup went 4 for 5 with two doubles and four RBIs as the Knights (3-9 PAL Bay, 10-14 overall) rolled to a 17-2 win at Sequoia (4-7, 14-10).
El Camino (19-5) finished off a two-game non-league sweep with a 9-4 win at Aragon (14-11).
Softball
Mercy 21, Jefferson 0
The Bears (9-0 PAL Lake, 20-4 overall) wrapped up the PAL Lake Division championship outright with a three-inning mercy-rule win at Jefferson (0-7, 0-11). Sophomore Isabel Reburiano powered Mercy with a 3-for-3 day, including two home runs and four RBIs. The Bears totaled 20 hits to improve their team batting average to .418. The victory marks Mercy’s first 20-win season since 2004.
Burlingame 14, Sequoia 3
Sophomore Brooke Arce clubbed a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the fifth as Burlingame (6-1 PAL Ocean, 13-8 overall) rolled to a mercy-rule home win over Sequoia (1-6, 5-12). Arce totaled four RBIs on the day, and added one shutout inning of relief in the circle. Senior Brooke Schuman added a single and three RBIs for the Panthers. Sequoia sophomore Devon Woodsome had two hits and two RBIs, and senior Nisha Mehta added two hits with a double.
With the win, the second-place Panthers remain a half game back of Menlo-Atherton in the PAL Ocean Division standings. The two teams go head-to-head Tuesday in Atherton at 4:30 p.m.
Capuchino 7, Carlmont 6
The Lady Mustangs (6-6 PAL Bay, 10-12 overall) survived a wild seventh inning to escape with the home win over Carlmont (0-11, 3-20-1). Cap led 5-4 going into the seventh, but the Lady Scots swung ahead on a two-run double from sophomore Chloe Kumli. But the Mustangs caught a break when Dana Motroni reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the frame, and junior Setaita Mau cashed in with an RBI double to tie it. Kiana Ngaluafe then reached on an error to score Mau with the walk-off game-winner.

Menlo-Atherton (7-1 PAL Ocean, 18-3 overall) maintained control of first place in the PAL Ocean Division, a half game ahead of Burlingame, with a 10-3 win at Terra Nova (2-7, 8-11).
Sydney Semans totaled two triples and two RBIs, while earning the win in the circle, as South City (6-2 PAL Lake, 12-10 overall) won 12-2 via mercy-rule at home against Castilleja-Palo Alto (3-6, 5-9).
