The Lady Vikings (4-0) enjoyed a big day at the Annie Lynch Memorial Tournament with wins over two 2024 Central Coast Section playoff qualifiers.
Facing 2024 CCS Division I semifinalist Branham (3-3), junior pitcher Kalia Woo fired a six-inning no-hitter, allowing one walk while recording no strikeouts. Mills scored in each of the first three innings, and earned a mercy-rule walk-off with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Freshman Sydney Wong was 1 for 3 with three RBIs, freshman Gina Hillman went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and sophomore Jazzy Maske was 2 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI.
Facing 2024 CCS Open Division runner-up Mitty (3-1), the Vikings broke a 1-1 tie with a four-run rally in the top of the fifth. Freshman Bailey Beauchemin was 1 for 3 with a double and three RBIs in the game. Wong and junior Audrey Jang also drove in runs for Mills. Mitty junior Olivia Anderson was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.
Wong earned the win in the circle, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks, with four strikeouts over five innings of work. Woo fired two scoreless innings to close it out, allowing one hit while striking out three.
Notre Dame-Belmont 3, Scotts Valley 2
The Tigers (1-0) opened their season with a win in tournament play, holding off a two-run rally by Scotts Valley (2-2) in the bottom of the sixth of the six-inning contest. NDB pitcher Allison Lui earned the win, going the distance while allowing two runs (none earned) on six hits while striking out five. Lui added a 2-for-2 day at the plate with an RBI, while Skylar Loo added two hits with a solo home run, and Stella Hird also drove in a run. Seniors Abby Howell and Jazzy Doubek each knocked in runs for Scotts Valley.
Wilcox 4, Aragon 2
Live Oak 9, Aragon 2
The Lady Dons (1-5) added two juniors to their underclassman-intensive roster but dropped two games at the Salinas Sports Complex in the Annie Lynch Memorial Tournament.
Wilcox (2-1) rallied for four runs in the top of the second against Aragon freshman starting pitcher Makayla Hafoka. Hafoka earned the complete game, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out two. Sophomore Taylor Workman and freshman Zoe Farrigan each tripled for the Dons, while freshmen Chloe Wan and Brigette Brodsky had one RBI apiece.
Hafoka and Wan pitched against Live Oak (3-0), as the Acorns scored in each of the first four innings, including a five-spot in the third. Workman was 2 for 3 with a solo home run for the Dons, and sophomore Olivia Mukherjee had an RBI double.
Baseball
San Mateo 14, Washington 0
Junior right-hander Tyce Copus fired six shutout innings of two-hit ball, while striking out 12, as the Bearcats (2-1) shut out Washington-SF (0-3) in San Mateo. Junior reliever Travis Okimura closed it out with a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh. San Mateo banged out 11 hits, with senior Neel Sardesai going 2 for 4 with three RBIs, while Christian Louie, Julian Blees and Jesus Olivas had two hits and two RBIs apiece.
Lowell 9, South City 1
The Warriors (0-1) dropped their season opener at home against Lowell-SF (1-0). Cardinals starting pitcher Julian Cook went the distance, allowing one unearned run on one hit while striking out six. Lowell credited Cook with a no-hitter on its scoring results at MaxPreps.com, but South City’s home book credited one hit to senior Gabriel Martin. The home scorebook is considered the official book in baseball. Junior starting pitcher Giovanni Bernal took the loss for the Warriors, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits through three innings. Cook and junior Reggie Fong drove in three runs apiece for Lowell.
Lincoln 6, Aragon 3
With the game tied 2-2, Lincoln-SF (1-2) rallied for three runs in the top of the six in non-league action at Aragon (1-1). Lincoln starting pitcher Mason Wong surrendered 11 hits, but the junior went the distance, allowing three runs (one earned) while walking one and striking out seven. Aragon senior Charlie Henderson led all hitters, going 4 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI. It marks the first four-hit game of Henderson’s two-year varsity career. He recorded four three-hit games last season.
Riordan 10, El Camino 6
The Colts (0-3) dropped their third straight to start the season at Riordan (2-0-1). Senior Chase Oliver and sophomore Santino Williams drove in three runs apiece for the Crusaders. El Camino manufactured six hits, with Caleb Oliveras going 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Adrian Iniguez going 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Carlos Alcala adding two RBIs.
Soquel 9, Woodside 3
The Wildcats (0-2) took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth, but Soquel (3-0-1) rallied for four runs in the bottom of the inning. Hudson Summerhill went 1 for 3 with three RBIs for the Knights. Woodside senior Trent Amoroso was 2 for 3 with a double, while juniors Carter Bell and Jeremiah Arias Torres, and sophomore Charles Dalrymple each produced RBIs for the Wildcats.
Prospect 7, Half Moon Bay 1

Three Prospect pitchers combined to one-hit the Cougars (0-3) in Half Moon Bay. It was the first win of the year for the Panthers (1-2). KJ Rieden earned the win with two shutout innings of work, striking out six. Prospect struck out 11 on the day.

The Lady Dons (1-3) earned their first win of the year against Gilroy (1-1) in tournament play at the Salinas Sports Complex. Freshman Makayla Hafoka earned the win in the circle, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits through five innings of work. Freshman Chloe Wan closed it out with a shutout sixth. Sophomore Taylor Workman paced Aragon at the plate, going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Workman added three hits in Aragon’s loss to Mitty (2-0).
Half Moon Bay 17, Pioneer 6
Sophomore slugger Mia Modena hit two home runs as the Cougars (3-0) racked up 18 hits on the day at Pioneer-San Jose (0-2). HMB has now scored 57 runs through three games this season. Modena was 3 for 3 with a triple and two homers, with a career-high seven RBIs. Miranda Sarabia totaled four hits with a double and two RBIs, and junior Tessa Deeney added three hits to improve her season average to .714. Freshman pitcher Zoey Schwartz went the distance in the circle to earn the win, her first of the year.
Sequoia 7, Presentation 3
Trailing 3-2 in the late innings, the Ravens (1-1) rallied for two runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the sixth to earn their first win of the year in Redwood City. Freshmen Devon Woodsome and Maren Ocken led the way. Devon went 3 for 4 with a triple and an RBI. Ocken added a single with two RBIs. Woodsome also earned the win in the circle, allowing three runs on five hits through five innings of work. Senior reliever Jada Crockett closed it out with two perfect innings, striking out five.
Ann Sobrato 8, San Mateo 6
Freshman Rachel Warner had a triple with three RBIs, but it was not enough as the Bearcats (1-1) fell at home to Ann Sobrato (2-0). The Bulldogs were led by senior Brooklyn Amato’s three hits, Alyssa Nava and Jordan Bouton had two RBIs apiece.

Capuchino 7, Mills 0
Senior starting pitcher Declan Mendel fired six shutout innings to lead the Mustangs (3-0) to their third straight win to start the year at home against Mills (0-2). Mendel allowed just three hits while striking out nine against nothing wild. Senior right-hander Anakin Manuel navigated a dicey seventh, allowing a hit and two walks, to preserve the shutout. Cap banged out 10 hits, led by a 3-for-4 night from senior Lucas Zayac. Seniors Thomas Ciardella and Andres Gomez added two hits and one RBI apiece, while junior Bobby Gomez had a triple and two RBIs. Relievers Matt Juul and Nick Lafon combined for 2 2/3 scoreless innings for the Vikings.
Leigh 6, Hillsdale 5
Jumping out to a 5-4 lead in the top of the fourth, the Fighting Knights (1-2) surrendered one run in the bottom of the fourth before senior Noah Miller supplied a solo home run in the fifth for the game-winning run. Miller was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Senior Jake Belloni homered for Hillsdale, sophomore Parker Jessup drove in two runs, and sophomore Parker Jessup had a triple with two RBIs.
Carlmont 7, El Camino 2
Senior starting pitcher Jonathan Fong earned his first win of the year, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits with three strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings to lead the Scots (2-0) at home against El Camino (0-2). Senior relievers Pano Koutoulas and Grant Goetz combined for 2 1/3 scoreless innings to close it out. John Dunne and Levi Wellman tabbed two hits and one RBI apiece for Carlmont. The Colts racked up 10 hits, led by a 3-for-3, one-RBI day from Quentin Bromaghim.
Crystal 5, Pinewood 4
After surrendering a go-ahead run in the top of the seventh, the Gryphons (1-0) rallied to walk off with two runs in the bottom of the inning against Pinewood (0-1) at Sea Cloud Park for their first win of the season. Crystal was paced by Tyler Hanebrink and Marcus Koo with two doubles apiece, while Hanebrink, Rohan Seiber, Hiro Wong and Brandon Ma each drove in runs. Seiber earned the win in relief, allowing one run on three hits and three walks, while striking out four through four innings of work. Ma took a no-decision, allowing three runs (one earned) on one hit and one walk while striking out eight through three innings.
Stuart Hall 11, Summit Shasta 8
Summit Shasta (0-1) jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but Stuart Hall-SF (2-0) scored two in the fifth, four in the sixth, and took the lead with five runs in the seventh to earn the comeback win. Marshall Williamson homered for Stuart Hall. Maxwell Espinola paced Summit Shasta with two hits with a double and two RBIs.
