Woodside 16, Santa Clara 6
The Wildcats (2-3) scored early and often to post their best single-game run total of the young season at Santa Clara. It was the first loss of the season for the Bruins (6-1). Woodside racked up 18 hits, paced by sophomore Hunter Taylor’s 4-for-4, three-RBI day. Juniors Anderson Comfort and Cruz Torres had three hits and three RBIs apiece, while junior Jeremiah Arias Torres had three hits and two RBIs. Carter Ball added a double and two RBIs.
Woodside scored three runs in each of the first three frames to take a 9-1 lead, followed by a six-run fifth. Santa Clara scored five runs through the last two innings. Woodside senior Joseph Hohl worked 6 2/3 innings to earn his first win of the year, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits. Hohl walked three and struck out six. His record improves to 1-2.
Senior Jaxton Chao led the Bruins with three hits and picked up an RBI. Santa Clara won six in a row to start the season, opening with back-to-back wins over Half Moon Bay and Sequoia.
Carlmont 4, Aragon 1
With the game tied 1-1 in the sixth, the Scots (4-3) rallied for a three-spot to win at Aragon (2-5). Senior relief pitcher Jonathan Fong earned the win, firing innings of one-hit shutout ball. His record improves to 3-0. Aragon starting pitcher Dalton Kane took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) over six innings of work.
Senior Luke Tofigh had a single with two RBIs, while seniors Pano Koutoulas and Jonathan Fong also drove in runs for Carlmont. The Dons managed just two hits in the game, with senior Josh Jacobs producing the team’s one RBI.
Aptos 6, Menlo 1
Two Menlo freshmen recorded multi-hit games, but the Knights (2-5) manufactured little else in a non-league home loss to Aptos (1-2). Freshman Liam Widner registered two hits with a double, and freshman Fletcher Cahill had two hits with an RBI. But the Mariners scored five runs over the first two innings and never trailed. Cole McGillicuddy led Aptos with three hits and two RBIs. McGillicuddy also threw two scoreless innings in relief of starter Jason Yager, who allowed one run (none earned) over five innings to earn the win. Senior right-hander Ben Salama allowed six runs (one earned) through four innings to take the loss.
Castro Valley 12, San Mateo 3
It was a rough day for four Bearcats pitchers as Castro Valley (5-2) came to town and racked up 14 hits. Sophomore reliever Hudson Brandt was the only arm to keep the Trojans off the board with one inning of scoreless relief. Damien Caldiero led Castro Valley with three hits while adding an RBI, and Anthony Mares added two hits with a triple and two RBIs. San Mateo (4-3) totaled four hits, and senior Julian Blees drove in two runs to up his season total to 11 RBIs through seven games.
Mitty 5, Menlo-Atherton 4
M-A (5-3) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first, but the Monarchs (5-2) scored five times in the second and led the rest of the way. M-A starting pitcher Wes Peterson didn’t survive the second, working 1 1/3 innings while allowing five runs (none earned). The Bears committed two errors on the day. M-A totaled seven hits, led by senior Jimmy Zaharias with two. MJ Ellazar added a hit and two RBIs.
Monta Vista 14, Jefferson 0
Three pitchers combined on a one-hitter for Monta Vista-Cupertino (4-2), as the Matadors improved their record to 2-0 in non-league play against visiting Jefferson (0-6). Senior starter Aiden Koppes allowed one hit through 4 1/3 innings, walking one and striking out eight. Sravik Sajja and Tim Yin combined for two scoreless innings to close it out.

El Camino 10, Lincoln 6
The Lady Colts (1-1) racked up 12 hits to earn their first win of the season. Juliana Bazlamit led the way with three hits with two doubles and an RBI. Mahealani Keahi added two hits and three RBIs, while freshman Kiya Mas also had two hits. Junior pitcher Alyssa Rueda went the distance, allowing six runs (none earned) on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Freshman Jala Chi led Lincoln-SF (2-1) with two hits, including a double.
Hillsdale 5, Menlo-Atherton 2
Sophomore pitcher Lola Jones went the distance, allowing two runs on five hits to lead the Lady Knights (5-2) to the win at home against Menlo-Atherton (2-2). Jones allowed three walks and struck out eight, countering M-A starter Elise Koo, who worked 4 1/3 innings to take the loss. With the game tied 2-2 in the fifth, Hillsdale rallied for two runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead for good. Sophia and Taylor O’Mahony had identical batting lines, each totaling two hits with a triple and one RBI. Paige Venezia added two hits with an RBI. M-A junior Kylie Cox had a double with an RBI, and junior Carey Maletis added a triple with an RBI.

Mercy-Burlingame (1-5) split a pair of games at the Watsonville Tournament. The Bears earned their first win of the season against Greenfield, racking up 13 hits and going large with a 10-run inning in the third. Freshman Vivianna Reyes belted two home runs in the game. Reyes finished with three hits and three RBIs, while senior Vikki Saenz had two hits and four RBIs, senior Elena Gonzalez added a double and three RBIs, sophomore Aveline Anderson had two hits with a triple. Freshman pither Melina Antonio fired a two-hit shutout, walking one while striking out nine.
Capuchino 9, Livermore 7
The Lady Mustangs (1-2) led 3-2 in the fifth when they rallied for five runs in the top of the frame with Livermore (2-2) playing as the home team at Capuchino. The Motroni sisters, senior Avery Motroni and sophomore Dana Motroni, led the way for Cap. “Big Mo” went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, while “Little Mo” had a double with three runs batted in. Brianna Lopiccolo added a double with two RBIs. Senior starting pitcher Lola Sierra earned the win, allowing five runs (three earned) with six hits and two walks while striking out 10.
Campolindo 10, Design Tech 1
Sophomore Paige Williams had four hits for Campolindo (1-3) as the Cougars earned their first win of the year in Moraga against Design Tech (1-3). Williams also earned the win in the circle, allowing one hit on three hits and three walks while striking out 12. Senior Jeneva Fletcher paced the Dragons with two hits, including a solo home run, while junior Ella Lewis added two hits.

Sequoia 3, St. Francis 2
The Ravens (3-3) came back from Mountain View with a morale-boosting victory, snapping a four-game winning streak for St. Francis (6-2). Senior relief pitcher Dylan Karmin worked five innings to earn the win, and closed out the game with his third strikeout to strand the tying run on second. Karmin allowed two runs on two hits, two walks and two hit batsmen with three strikeouts in relief of starting pitcher Morgan Winfield. Winfield pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hits with a walk and a hit batsman while striking out three.
Senior catcher Logan Mathias enjoyed a big day. In addition to catching seven innings, Mathias went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and matched his career-high with his third stolen base of the season. A career .250 hitter, the senior is now batting .438 on the year. Senior Vince Olinger Giani added two hits with a double and an RBI for the Ravens.
Crystal 2, Design Tech 0
Brandon Ma fired a two-hit shutout gem with 10 strikeouts to lead the Gryphons (2-0) to their second straight win to start the year against Design Tech (1-4) at the Belmont Sports Complex. Each two managed just two hits, but Crystal got to Design Tech starting pitcher Eddy Yee for two unearned runs in the second. Connor Uchida and Charlie Dyner tabbed one RBI apiece for the Gryphons.
Terra Nova 5, Sacred Heart Prep 2
Sophomore starting pitcher Jesse Martinez went the distance in Atherton to lead the Tigers (3-2-1) to their third straight win. Martinez allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out one. His record improves to 2-1. With the game tied 1-1 in the fifth, Terra Nova broke through with a four-run rally. Evan Wilson and Brody Finale totaled two hits and one RBI apiece, while Aiden James, Luke Ornelas and JT Snead also drove in runs for the Tigers. Junior starter Ralin Covey worked 4 1/3 innings for SHP (3-5) to take the loss.
Softball
Sacred Heart Cathedral 9, South City 6
Leading 5-4 in the sixth, Sacred Heart Cathedral-SF (2-1) rallied for four runs in the bottom of the inning. South City (2-2) got two hits and two RBIs from sophomore Sydney Semans, while freshman Madyson Jade Quintanilla had a home run with two RBIs, sophomore Miley Salvatore singled with two RBIs, and freshman Keira Crutchfield added two hits. Sophomore Francesca Moralejo paced the Fightin’ Irish with three hits, including a triple and two RBIs.
St. Ignatius 7, Capuchino 4
With the game scoreless after regulation, each team scored three runs in the ninth. St. Ignatius-SF (5-0) then won it with a four-run rally in the top of the 10th to win its fifth straight to start the year at Capuchino (0-2). Cap starting pitcher Lily Thomas took a hard-luck loss, allowing five runs (two earned) over 9 2/3 innings of work. Freshman Olivia Dollard worked 10 innings for the Wildcats to earn the win. Senior catcher Avery Motroni led the Lady Mustangs with three hits, including a double and two RBIs. Junior Gianna Galarza tabbed two hits and two RBIs for St. Ignatius.
Homestead 4, Half Moon Bay 0
Homestead starting pitcher Mackenzie Smith fired a four-hit shutout as Half Moon Bay (4-4) dropped its fourth straight in Cupertino. Homestead (3-0) has now won three straight to start the year. Sophomore Paisley Harris had a triple for HMB, while senior Olivia Deeney had a double.
St. Francis 10, Hillsdale 0
Pitchers Mercedes Coller and Hailey Nguyen combined on a one-hit shutout for St. Francis-Mountain View (3-0) at home against Hillsdale (2-2-1). Gabby Rocha ad Peyton Tsao each homered for the Lancers. Hillsdale’s lone hit came off the bat of junior Sophia Shelton.
