It took Mills 13 quarters of basketball to get its offense going in the new year. Once the Lady Vikings got cooking Friday night at Hillsdale, however, there was no stopping them.
Kelly Ho
Mills didn’t score its first field goal until nearly nine minutes in, when senior post Amaya Moore hit a layup while drawing a foul, but the Vikings used a 12-point run in the second quarter to fuel a 48-29 girls’ basketball victory at Hillsdale.
Kaylee Huynh
The win snaps a four-game losing streak for Mills (1-3 PAL Bay, 5-7 overall), and marks the team’s first win of the season in Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division play.

Vikings guard Kelly Ho heated up from beyond the arc in the second quarter. The senior rattled home a 3-pointer with 5:25 to go in the half to cut Hillsdale’s lead to 10-8. Next time down the floor, Ho splashed a long wing 3 to put Mills ahead 11-10.
Mills used a 12-0 run to up its lead to 15-10. Hillsdale (2-3, 10-5) went on a 5-0 mini-run before halftime, with junior Cadence Lane scoring a layup and finishing an and-1 to tie it 15-all prior to the break. But the Vikings took an 18-15 lead into the locker room after senior Kaylee Huynh knocked down a corner 3.
It was a slow start to the game all around, as neither team scored until 1 minute, 47 seconds when Hillsdale’s Daniella Sierra got to the free-throw line, and the senior hit 5 of her first 6 free throws to give the Lady Knights a 5-0 lead. Mills finally got on the board with 2:51 remaining in the first quarter when junior Nina Kerri converted two free throws.
The Vikings didn’t wait around in the second half, though, with Huynh pulling up from deep again to splash down 21 seconds into the third quarter. The 3 sparked a 12-4 Mills run, and Huynh connected for another 3 late in the period to send her team to the fourth quarter up 33-21.
Corkish hit two 3s in the fourth quarter for Hillsdale, but it was Moore who took over the game for Mills down the stretch. The senior finished with a game-high 17 points, while Huynh totaled four 3s to add 13 points.
