College of San Mateo softball won four games in three days to extend its winning streak to eight games to start the season, capped by Saturday’s doubleheader sweep.
Love Cabanas
The Lady Bulldogs (8-0) opened Saturday’s twin bill with an 11-3 win over Feather River, before rallying for a 4-2 win over Sacramento City. CSM’s battery enjoyed a big showing in the Feather River victory. Freshman pitcher Lola Sierra allowed three runs on five hits to earn the complete-game victory in the mercy-rule win. Sierra’s pitching record improves to 4-0, while she added a single with an RBI at the plate. CSM catcher Love Cabanas went 3 for 3 with a home run and five RBIs in the contest.
In the nightcap, CSM trailed Sac City 2-1 after three innings, but tied it in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Hannah Ames. In the fifth, sophomore Nia Mapa connected for a two-run home run to give the Bulldogs the lead. Kierstin Wick fired 2 1/3 innings of perfect relief to earn the win, her first of the year.
Mapa is now slashing .421/.522/1.105 on the year with four home runs and 13 RBIs, already surpassing her total in both categories from last season.
CSM opened the weekend tournament Friday with a 5-1 win over Feather River, powered by home runs from Mapa and Alyssa Green. Thursday, the Bulldogs traveled to San Joaquin Delta for a 4-0 win, backed by Sierra’s three-hit shutout.
