D52 Little League All-Stars 12s tournament
Belmont-Redwood Shores 8, Palo Alto 5
Belmont-Redwood Shores opened the District 52 Little League tourney prevailing in a back-and-forth battle at Middlefield Ballpark. BRS let leads of 2-0 and 5-3 slip away, only to break a 5-5 tie with one run in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
In the fourth, Nick Ramirez drilled a solo home run to center field to put BRS up 6-5. In the fifth, Vinny Ferrari’s double put runners at second and third, and Colin Walton followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Eli Kim. Parker Elliott then singled home Ferrari to cap the scoring.
Walton finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Jonathan Kunz also drove in two. Palo Alto totaled seven hits, with Dylan LaMere, Sage Willis and Niko Harwell collecting one RBI apiece.
Palo Alto falls to the elimination bracket and will take the field again Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Pacifica 4, Redwood City 3
After falling behind 3-0 in the first, Pacifica battled back to tie it in the third and take its first lead in the fifth.
Henry Boulland scored the tying run in the third on an infield error. Then in the fifth, Boulland led off the inning with a triple before James Kelly supplied a go-ahead sacrifice fly. Relief pitcher Gio Cayot Jr. did the rest, firing two shutout innings to earn the win. Cayot took over for starting pitcher Liam Lyons, who worked four innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk while striking out five. Four of the six outs recorded by Cayot were via strikeout.
Tanner Jarolimek paced RWC with two hits, while Dominic Sigala and Lucas Fairbairn each recorded RBIs.
Redwood City falls to the elimination bracket and returns to Middlefield Ballpark Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
San Carlos 14, Foster City 3
San Carlos broke a 2-2 tie in the third, exploding for six runs in the inning and scoring six more in the fourth. With San Carlos trailing 2-0 in the first, Korbin Saber connected for a two-run home run to tie it. Saber and Jesse Pinelli finished the day with three RBIs apiece, while Austin Perna led the way out of the leadoff spot with three hits. Foster City was paced by Leo Kanamaru, who went 2 for 2 with an RBI.
Foster City falls to the elimination bracket, and will face Pacifica, Monday at Middlefield Ballpark at 4 p.m.
San Mateo National 9, Half Moon Bay 6
Jake Spurgeon worked four innings on the mound and added three RBIs at the plate to lead San Mateo National to the win on opening day of the District 52 All-Stars 12s tournament at Middlefield Ballpark. National rallied for five runs in the bottom of the second, and answered a three-spot by Half Moon Bay in the top of the third with four more runs in the bottom of the frame.
National’s Ryan Toensing was 2 for 2 with two RBIs, while Nicolas Torres added two hits and Colin Wu recorded two RBIs. Torres and Cole Kuboyama each pitched a scoreless inning of relief to close out the victory.
HMB totaled 12 hits, with Oliver Kern going 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs. Greyson Riesen, Brayden Davis and Aiden Keates added two hits apiece, and Mackey Connell had a double and two RBIs.
HMB falls to the elimination bracket, and is set to face Belmont-Redwood Shores, Monday at 6:30 p.m.

D52 Little League All-Stars 11s tournament
Foster City 6, Redwood City 5
Trailing 5-1 in the fifth, Foster City rallied for five runs in its final at-bat to win a thriller in the opening game of the District 52 All-Stars 11s tournament at Trinta Park. Preston Spachis, who went 2 for 3 on the day, opened the bottom of the fifth with a single, opening the floodgates as the next four batters — Oliver Xia, Veer Sanjay Gehani, Connor Chapeton and Ryu Fujimoto each reached. Ben Lee later crossed the plate with the go-ahead run, while Skylar Ide had a big double in the inning.
Spachis earned the win in relief, working 2 1/3 innings. He pitched through a two-on, two-out jam in the sixth to close it out. Redwood City scored two in the first and three in the fourth. Cleanup batter Cayden Fagnini reached base in each of his three plate appearances, going 1 for 3 with a single and two runs scored.
Redwood City falls to the elimination bracket, and is set to take the field Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
San Carlos 5, Palo Alto 3
Alex Cha went 2 for 2 with a double and a home run to lead San Carlos to a victory on opening day in the District 52 All-Stars 11s tournament at Trinta Park.
San Carlos rallied for three runs in the first, with Griffin Lucia reaching on an error and Bentley Hird drawing a walk. Cha followed with an RBI double. Then after Hird scored on a wild pitch, Cha stole home on a throw back to the mound. Palo Alto got one run back in the bottom of the inning. Colton Kuchinski led off with a single and later scored from second when Austin Carlstrom reached on an infield error.
In the fourth, Cha led off with a solo home run. Evan Zalabak then reached on a one-out single and later scored on an Emma Harville double. Palo Alto scored twice in the bottom of the frame on a two-run double by Phillip Sheng to plate Alonzo Ontiveres and Carlstrom. But San Carlos’ starting pitcher Zalabak settled down to finish out the inning. Zalabak worked four innings to earn the win, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out five. Cha fired two scoreless innings to record the save.
Palo Alto falls to the elimination bracket, and will take the field again Monday at 5:30 p.m.
D52 Little League All-Stars 10s tournament
San Mateo American 2, Menlo-Atherton 0
Jacob Armstrong and Noah Jones combined on a one-hit shutout gem to lead San Mateo American to victory in the opening round of the District 52 All-Stars 10s tournament at Ford Field. William Clark was the only Menlo-Atherton batter to reach base with a third-inning single. Armstrong retired the side in order with three groundouts in the first. From there, all nine outs he recorded were via strikeout. Jones closed it out with two perfect innings, striking out two.
American scored one of its runs in the fifth with back-to-back doubles by Grayson McLaughlin and Ben Willard.
Menlo-Atherton falls to the elimination bracket, and returns Monday to Ford Field for a 5:30 p.m. start.
Half Moon Bay 8, San Carlos 7
Will Butterfoss and Ryder Adam put Half Moon Bay ahead in the fifth inning after a wild back-and-forth battle on opening day of the District 52 10s tourney at Ford Field. HMB entered the inning trailing 6-4 but rallied for four runs to take the lead for good. Gavin Murtha walked to lead off the frame and Bryce Thompson extended it with a two-out single. Gavin Seva and Peter Hophan followed with back-to-back walks, before Butterfoss and Adam tallied back-to-back singles to put HMB ahead.
San Carlos opened the day with two runs in the top of the first, fueled by a Gino Flores single and a Drew Beals double, followed by a single by Dom Rheim. HMB jumped ahead with four runs in the bottom of the inning, sparked by a one-out triple from Murtha before Jameson Stoloski, Jack Green and Thompson combined for three straight doubles. San Carlos tied it with two runs in the third, then took a 6-4 lead in the fourth with clutch double from Rhein.
San Carlos rallied in the sixth, scoring once on a one-out RBI single by William Byrnes. Byrnes moved around to third, but Peter Hophan closed it out with back-to-back strikeouts to move HMB through the winners’ bracket.
San Carlos falls to the elimination bracket, and plays again Monday against Belmont-Redwood Shores at 3 p.m.
