Heading into the District 52 All-Stars tournaments, the Daily Journal resolved to include an item on every game in each of the 10s, 11s and 12s tournaments. Due to an editorial error, the games for Friday, June 27 were not published. So, to round out our coverage of the District 52 tournaments that concluded over the past week, we are publishing game reports from June 27.
Palo Alto 2, Hillsborough 0
Beau Jefferson and Dylan Wu combined on a five-hit shutout and Palo Alto knocked out Hillsborough in an elimination game at Trinta Park.
Paly rallied for both its runs in the bottom of the fourth. Mateo Benford Garcia led off with a walk, followed by back-to-back singles from Thunder Pagano-Alfrey and Ciaran Kuchinski to load the bases. Wu drove home the first run with an RBI groundout. Then Jack Fee produced an RBI infield single.
Jefferson fired three scoreless innings to take a no-decision, allowing three hits, two walks and one hit batter, while striking out five. Wu then worked three scoreless frames to earn the win, allowing two hits and striking out two. Austin Ford, Spencer Simon, Leo Matteucci and Cole Glaser pitched for Hillsborough.
Hillsborough’s Nolan Tognetti paced all hitters, going 2 for 2 with a double. Jefferson and Avi Airan added singles for Palo Alto.

Redwood City 8, San Carlos 7
Closing pitcher Hunter Karcich escaped a dicey jam in the sixth as Redwood City held on to elimination San Carlos at Trinta Park.
RWC took an 8-4 lead into the sixth, but San Carlos rallied for three runs before Karcich stranded the potential tying run in scoring position. The entire San Carlos rally was staged with two outs, after a one-out single saw RWC throw out the batter-runner at second base. San Carlos then drew three straight walks from Jack Baskin, Luke Balestreri and Carter Williams to load the bases.
Karcich then took over for Carlo Minitti — who worked 3 2/3 innings in relief of starting pitcher William Pirozzolli — and San Carlos’ Rocco Dito greeted him with a bases-clearing double. Karcich bounced back, though, finishing the game with a swinging strikeout.
San Carlos jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the first, but RWC swung ahead with a three-run rally in the third, with Luke Johnson and Matthew Larsen each scoring on wild pitched. RWC added four runs in the fifth, capped by a two-run single from Camilo Sherer.
Colton Kolar led RWC with two hits, while Will Warner totaled two hits and two RBIs for San Carlos. Warner and Jack Baskin pitched for San Carlos.
