Lolo Mataele keeps running, Dieter Kelly keeps kicking, and the College of San Mateo Bulldogs keep on winning.
CSM (3-0 Bay 6, 7-1 overall) won big Saturday, dropping 51 points on rival City College of San Francisco (2-1, 2-6) in a 51-7 triumph at George M. Rush Stadium. It marks the fifth straight win for the No. 3-ranked Bulldogs, who are now the sole unbeaten team in Bay 6 Conference play.
With the game tied 7-7 in the first quarter, CSM took the lead on a 7-yard touchdown run by Mataele, who led all rushers with eight carries for 47 yards. The Bulldogs finished with 44 unanswered points.
Kelly added two straight field goals in the second quarter, a 34-yarder followed by a 47-yard boomer. But the Bulldogs weren’t done in the first half, as they armed the “Missil3,” transfer sophomore Hassan Mahasin, who returned a punt 81 yards for a touchdown against his former team. Mahasin is in his first year at CSM. The Serra graduate played his freshman season at CCSF in 2023.
CSM took a 34-7 lead into the half, thanks to freshman quarterback Dominic Ingrassia’s 54-yard scoring strike to Nico Caruso, his second TD catch of the day, nine seconds before the buzzer. Ingrassia got his team on the board on the Bulldogs’ offense second play. A CCSF three-and-out resulted in a big Mahasin punt return, as he went 35 yards to reach the Rams’ 27. Two plays later, Ingrassia hit Caruso for a 16-yard score.
The Rams’ second possession stalled at midfield, but the ensuing punt pinned CSM deep when Mahasin called for a fair catch at the 7-yards line. Two plays later, the Bulldogs fumbled with CCSF recovering at CSM’s 4. After the Rams got pushed back on a tackle for a loss by defensive end John Gayer, they scored on an 8-yard pass from Christian Banks to Richard Washing, tying it 7-7.
It was all CCSF’s offense would manage on the day. CSM outgained the Rams 366-161 in total yards.
Ingrassia finished 9-of-13 passing for 132 yards and two TDs. Freshman quarterback Conner Annicharico took over in the second half, going 6-of-13 for 120 yards, with an eight-yard scoring pass to Maurice Savage in the closing seconds of the game.
The Bulldogs also scored twice in the third quarter. Kelly knocked a 37-yard field goal through the uprights to make it 37-7. Freshman running back Ali Collier later broke a 21-yard scoring run with 3:02 left in the third quarter.
CSM freshman receiver Jaelin Green led all receivers with 86 yards on three catches. Sophomore KB Boone-Nelson added four catches for 62 yards.
CSM’s defense recorded two interceptions. Freshman quarterback Sherrod Smith nabbed his third interception in three weeks. Sophomore Devon Gordon also produced a pick. Sophomore linebacker Andrew Buck and freshman linebacker Albert Tuakalu each recorded sacks for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs are now set to return for their final regular-season home game of the season. CSM will host San Joaquin Delta this Saturday. Kickoff at College Heights Stadium is slated for 1 p.m.
