The Redwood City man accused of stabbing his girlfriend a dozen times in front of her 4-year-old daughter will learn in May if he'll stand trial for attempted murder.
Wayne Selu, Jr., 25, pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, inflicting great bodily injury and assault with a deadly weapon in the April 18 attack after the woman tried to break off their relationship. The victim underwent hours of surgery at Stanford Medical Center for her injuries and Selu was arrested hours later.
The woman reportedly was telling Selu that she no longer wanted to continue seeing him when he angrily attacked her. Selu, her boyfriend of about one year, stabbed her 13 times in front of his apartment complex, according to the District Attorney's Office. Selu was arrested about an hour after the 24-year-old woman called 911 at 4 p.m. and identified him as her attacker. The woman said Selu stabbed her several times while the couple and the child stood in the parking lot of the Hampshire Apartments in the North Fair Oaks neighborhood.
Selu was spotted walking down the 2600 block of Middlefield Road at about 5 p.m. by a sheriff's deputy who recognized him from the victim's description. Selu was arrested and booked into San Mateo County Jail.
Selu has no felony criminal history in San Mateo County. He remains in custody on no-bail status.
