Editor,

Congratulations to Tim Hilborn for 36 years of teaching. Although he didn’t mention it, Tim is a member of San Mateo County music royalty. His father/grandfather taught music in San Mateo County public schools for 40 years. Bill Hilborn taught band, choir and orchestra at my middle school and we revered him. He didn’t talk down to us and was very serious about music. He was strict and respected. If anyone, usually the boys, got out of line, it was somehow subtly made clear to them that Mr. Hilborn had served in World War II and knew how to handle combat. As far as I ever knew, no one challenged him further.
