Time is running out to vote “yes” on Measure P. As we approach the last week of voting, I want to take this opportunity to stress the importance of mailing back your “yes” on the ballot. Measure P isn’t just one of the city’s options to upgrade the levee to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) standards, it’s our only option and we need it now.
Measure P is what will keep Foster City out of a flood zone keep our homes, schools, and businesses out of flood risk. My wife and I bought our home here years ago because we knew it would be a worthwhile investment and our kids would grow up in a safe community. Your “yes” on Measure P is a vote to preserve our safety now and for the future.
Protecting our quality of life here in Foster City also means protecting our strong property values. FEMA flood zone designation subjects homeowners and businesses to mandatory flood insurance requirements, estimated at $2,000 to $3,000 every year, as opposed to the $272 the average homeowner would pay for Measure P. FEMA isn’t going away. The choice of whether or not to be designated a flood zone isn’t in our hands; Measure P is. It allows us to make the levee improvements on our own terms though while protecting both the safety and savings of our residents. Please join me and mail back your “yes” on Measure P on or before June 5.
