Regarding your article “Life sciences treading water,” the proposed life sciences megaproject, “Redwood Life” is still aggressively moving forward along the shoreline of Redwood Shores. This huge project is fundamentally mismatched to its location. The site is subsiding on former landfill, already vulnerable to sea-level rise and rising groundwater within the dump itself — hardly a stable foundation for such an ambitious development.
The scale alone is staggering. At over 5 million gross square feet, the project would rival three Salesforce Towers, exceed twice the size of the iconic Oracle campus, and dwarf anything Redwood City has previously contemplated. This is not incremental growth — it is a massive transformation of the shoreline.
Equally troubling is what surrounds it: established multifamily residential neighborhoods and a state-designated wildlife reserve along Belmont Slough. These are not empty buffer zones — they are active communities and sensitive ecological habitats.
The proposal to build this project over 25 years means decades of disruption: continuous construction, heavy earth moving, and relentless pile driving. The cumulative impacts of this prolonged activity would not just inconvenience residents — it would severely degrade, if not irreparably harm, the wildlife populations that depend on the adjacent surrounding nature preserve.

This project isn’t just large — it’s in the wrong place, at the wrong scale, with consequences that will be felt by the Bay regionally and the community for generations.
