In response to Bill Silverfarb's article about our "chicken" Governor I want to say thank you!
As a lesbian with two children living in San Mateo County, I often wonder if Governor Schwarzenegger really knows what makes a family in this country. After all, he is not from here and hasn't been here all of his life. Has he come to our homes to see how wonderful our partners and children are? Has he spoken with us at Gay Pride events?? Has he asked our children if they want to run for office when they grow up?
I think we know the answers to these questions.
It is truly unfortunate that in this day and age my children still have to take the abuse they do because people like our Governor says it's okay. By saying he will veto AB 849 he is basically saying that my children should not be recognized as a part of a loving family. He is saying that it is fine for other school children to taunt them, beat them and not accept them because their parents aren't of two different sexes.
I happen to know of Marina Gatto, the young lady who has been fighting so hard for her moms to be recognized legally as the wonderful, loving parents they are. She is the most articulate, well-balanced, intelligent teenager I have ever seen in interviews and at events. I know one thing, when she runs for office, I won't hesitate to vote for her.

I am very glad that Mr. Silverfarb recognized the tireless efforts this teenager puts forth because she wants to have a family like everyone else. It is a shame that a teenage in this country has to fight so hard to have the basic rights that children of opposite sex couples have without question. Those children could learn a lot from Marina Gatto.
I can only hope that her commendable efforts will pay off for all of us who are seeking the right to marry our partners and raise our children the same way her wonderful moms are doing.
Governor Schwarzenegger does not give me hope. Marina Gatto does.
