Thank you to Congressman Kevin Mullin for his hard work in obtaining federal funding for street safety projects in San Mateo County. I especially appreciate the funding of the Holly Street/101 safety project in San Carlos, where a driver hit and killed 31-year-old cyclist Andrea Vallebueno.
The Trump administration has declared war on funding for bike lanes and public transit. Given the Republican control of the White House, Senate and House, Mullin’s success here is no small feat. We are lucky to have him as our representative in D.C.
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Swire, but you may not want to count your chickens until they hatch. This federal funding can easily be reallocated for whatever pet projects San Mateo County wants to use them for and I’m sure there are plenty of groups will have their hands out. Have Holly Street 101 safety project details been finalized? You may want to stay on “them” to ensure the bike improvements you want are within the scope of the project. Good luck! BTW, if it’s not too late, you may want to hope the Trump administration doesn’t rescind federal funding unless SMC meets some other requirement which is in the best interest of all citizens.
