I am a neighbor of the Charles Armstrong School in Belmont, and support its plan to modernize its campus, and slightly increase its enrollment. This plan deserves the support of every Belmont resident. It is one of our city’s jewels, literally one of the top schools for dyslexic learners in the country. Do a google search.
Charles Armstrong occupies the buildings of the former McDougal Elementary School, which was built in the mid 50s, and whose buildings have not been updated for 70 years. Every public elementary school in Belmont has been updated multiple times since then. Every such project has had the support of the community. This project just seeks the same for Charles Armstrong’s students.
Every child deserves an education in decent facilities. Including those who attend Charles Armstrong.
The City Council in 2005 disgraced itself when it rejected a similar request to permit Charles Armstrong to modernize its facilities. Twenty years on, we have a chance to correct that dismal decision.
If you support a quality education for all students, please write the Belmont City Council and express your support: citycouncil@belmont.gov. Even better, attend the Jan. 27 City Council meeting 7 p.m. at City Hall.
