As we celebrate our 90th year, we are ever mindful of being the best neighbor we can be and are proud of the strong relationships we have in the neighborhood. In this spirit, I wanted to respond to Mr. Fisher’s letter regarding The Carey School (in the Sept. 7 edition of the Daily Journal).
Mr. Fisher mentioned a “slowdown” during our morning drop-off on Alameda de las Pulgas. We share the goal of providing safe and efficient travel on the Alameda. Among our efforts, we stagger drop-offs, our administration open car doors to speed up drop-off and to supervise safety, and we maintain a digital speed monitor to encourage all drivers to respect the speed limit.
Mr. Fisher also referenced the aesthetics of our perimeter fencing. The primary function of the fencing is campus security. We work hard to maintain our campus in both form and function and strive to provide a safe environment for our students, their families and our neighbors.
One of the pleasures of my job is getting to know our neighbors. Should any neighbors, including Mr. Fisher, have suggestions ideas to enhance safety, efficiency or aesthetics, I encourage them to reach out to me directly. As a school, we believe in exploring and applying good ideas from wherever they come.

Carey school is a very good school but Serra High School has been kicking themselves for decades for not buying that small parcel of land when they had the opportunity.
