Editor,

We have one additional (slightly altered) Shakespeare quote for Matt Grocott’s edification: “The gentleman doth protest too much, methinks.”

Where in the world is our resident economist, Rel? Perhaps he can shed some light on the monetary policies of the Biden Administration. In the mean time we will ponder the thoughts of Ronald Reagan...

"When a business or an individual spends more than it makes, it goes bankrupt. When government does it, it sends you the bill. And when government does it for 40 years, the bill comes in two ways: higher taxes and inflation. Make no mistake about it, inflation is a tax and not by accident."

And John Maynard Keynes...

"By a continuing process of inflation, governments can confiscate, secretly and unobserved, an important part of the wealth of their citizens. There is no subtler, no surer means of overturning the existing basis of society than to debauch the currency. The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction, and does it in a manner which not one man in a million is able to diagnose."

Ray Fowler

Thanks, Wilfredo, for sharing this wisdom.

Re: inflation... It is a way to take people's wealth from them without having to openly raise taxes. Inflation is the most universal tax of all. Thomas Sowell

Wilfred, great question. Perhaps Rel is afraid his opinion will tank as much as Rachel Maddow, Joy Reid, MSNBC, and CNN’s ratings?

Gentleman,

While pseudo-intellectuals muse with Shakespeare, I gotta ask, where's the beef?

Wilfredo!

Stop... stop! My sides are aching!

Hilarious. Clara became a celebrity from those commercials. Her story her very interesting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clara_Peller

Thanks for finding something to post that the left side and the right side of the aisle can enjoy.

Good evening Mr. Fowler,

Thanks for the wiki link. As Paul Harvey used to say, "and now you know the rest of the story."

Given how chaotic life often is it's nice that there are certain things you can always count on. For example, no matter what the subject which sparked the comment, there will be at least one Daily Journal commentator who will bash Biden, Harris or some other Democrat/liberal politician or policy. It's refreshing!

Nothing is certain except death, taxes, and conservative fear & loathing :).

Terence Y

Mr. Olbert, another certain thing you can count on - no DJ commentators being able to list a bumbling Biden success. Instead, for some folks, their TDS remains on full display as they’re still bellyaching about our great President Trump. It’s hilarious!

Nothing is certain except death, taxes, and Trump Derangement Syndrome (if you’re unfortunate enough to have it).

In other news, Jared and Ivanka are keeping their distance from Donald because they can't take the constant whining from the petulant child about losing the election. DJT is also upset that Jared has a 7 figure book deal and he doesn't. Oh well, in a couple of months when they turn up the heat on the criminal investigations Donald will throw them under the bus anyway.

Mark...

I have no problem engaging in a debate concerning issues that affect everyone. I have responded to left leaning drivel in these pages... but often, those left leaning readers just scurry away.

Why is it "bashing" a Democratic Party policy to openly support voter IDs? 80% of Americans do. But the Democratic Party leadership labeled voter laws requiring voter IDs as racist... until this week... now, the left is OK with voter IDs.

Why is it "bashing" Joe to ask left leaning readers to explain Joe's four pinocchios re: new voter laws? And why is it "bashing" Joe to disagree with the Oval Office mantra that we live in a systemically racist country? I have invited left leaning readers to research the "most racist countries" in the world. You can easily find the top 25 most racist countries listed online. You know what you won't find on that list? The USA.

Why is it "bashing" Kamala to ask for three months when will she finally visit the border chaos created by the present administration?

So, straight up, Mark... Can you explain the Democratic Party's sudden shift with respect to voter IDs, why our president continues to refer to the country he leads as systemically racist, and why after being appointed to "fix" the border crisis, our vice president made no effort for three months to get to the border?

Then, please explain why we are seeing skyrocketing homicide rates in Democratic Party controlled cities. How about anti-Asian violence? Where are we seeing that happening? Coastal blue state cities like New York, Los Angeles and right up the road in San Francisco.

Is it "bashing" the left's ideology to oppose defunding the police when the Democratic Party's leadership cannot protect citizens? Citizens like Gyovanny Arzuaga and Yasmin Perez who were dragged from their car during a parade and executed on the street...

I have never met you, but I know the senseless killing of Gyovanny and Yasmin troubles your heart... how could it not do so?

But if it's "bashing" the Chicago mayor to question her leadership with over 300 persons shot and killed in her city before we have reached the halfway mark of 2021, then what "non-bashing" solution(s) to this problem do you propose?

Tafhdyd

Ray,

Why is it that the right keeps harping on Joe's four pinocchios (I think that is the only one he has) and they forget that Donald has so many they had to clear cut the forest to make them all? Maybe because they know almost everything Trump says is a lie so it is not newsworthy and it is when Joe says it?

Ray Fowler

Tafhdydicus... I'm crushed.

In a way, it's not that Joe got the four pinocchios but it is more about the Democratic Party talking heads acting as if the four pincchios didn't happen OR maybe it's OK when a Democrat in the Oval Office is untruthful. C'mon, man! How much truth is there in comparing Georgia's recent voting law changes not to Jim Crow but to Jim Eagle?

Joe has had a long struggle with the truth going back to his college days... but, hey... who doesn't inflate their college GPA a little especially after tipping a horn or two? However, do you know of any leading presidential candidates who withdrew from a national campaign due to being untruthful?

It's dismaying that the left leaning DJ readers continue to swing at every pitch. Did you hear that Trump is no longer president? The left's infatuation with all things Trump allows the Dem rank and file to be distracted from the real issues going on today. I guess that strategy is working for upper level Dems as neither Mark nor any other left leaning readers have addressed the issues raised in my earlier post.

If Dems want to dodge the voter ID flip flop, Joe's pincchios, Joe's cawing about Jim Crow, and the serious dereliction of duty in avoiding the border crisis... OK.

But how can anyone on the left turn away from violence in Dem controlled cities? How can anyone invoke "Orange Man bad" when innocents like Gyovanny and Yasmin are gunned down in our third largest city? It was only about nine weeks ago that 7 year old Jaslyn Adams was shot and killed while sitting with her father in a Chicago fast food drive thru.

Which do you think is more important... Jared and a new book deal or what's happening in our cities every day?

Terence Y

Dear Mr. Olbert, I present Exhibit No. 1 in my case against the TDS-infected. Notice how Taffy ramps up the bellyaching about our great President Trump but is unable, for the hundredth or more time, to list a busted Biden accomplishment? Meanwhile, I look forward to your responses to Mr. Fowler, assuming you have any and do not want to enter the same dust pile of despair that Taffy lives in.

Terence Y

I have one additional Shakespeare quotation for Mr. Rosenblatt’s and Mr. Olbert’s edification: “Few love to hear the sins they love to act.”

Ray Fowler

Hello, Terence

Hmmm... looks like Polonius popped up yesterday in the comments, and now we have been visited by Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

Terence Y

Wow, Ray – too good with that response. I had a Biden moment and couldn't recall the particulars, but it was well worth the search. BTW, supposedly Harris is going to finally visit the US-Mexico border on Friday to preempt Trump’s visit. Maybe fake news. We’ll see, but as usual, we can give credit to Trump for making that happen. Any guess on how many times Harris will begin cackling? A photo op of Harris with kids in cages?

Ray Fowler

Hi, Terence...

Sticking with the Shakespeare theme introduced this week and with apologies to the Bard of Avon and Macbeth... the Veep's trip to the border? She will strut and fret her hour upon the stage, and then will be heard no more... sound and fury signifying nothing.

The MSM of course will push the biggest story aside to cover the border trip. They need to distract the electorate from crime in our city streets. You know... crimes committed by mostly peaceful protesters.

Why are we not hearing more about a young couple in their 20s who are parents of a toddler and an infant being dragged from their car by street thugs during a Puerto Rican Day parade in Chicago only four days ago and shot and killed in the street? Of course, Mayor Lightfoot is vowing that the gunmen will be caught. OK. What about the other 310 persons shot and killed in Chicago THIS YEAR? Bad news for Joe... in the video captured by onlookers of Saturday's execution of that young couple... no AR-15s anywhere.
