With the word “liberal” bashed around these days, and often used in a derogatory way, it behooves one to recall JFK: “If by a ‘liberal’ they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind (…) someone who cares about the welfare of the people (…) their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties (…) then I’m proud to say I’m a ‘liberal.’”
The dictionary definition of “liberal” includes “objective, tolerant, impartial, reasonable, rational, unselfish, open-minded, not prejudiced, for general broadening of the mind, favoring individual liberty and political and social reform, trending towards democracy and personal freedom, regarding many traditional beliefs as dispensable, invalidated by modern thought or liable to change.”
So, if you are proud not to be a “liberal,” what are you, besides “conservative?” Asocial? Or simply the opposite of all the above?

Based upon your past history of name-calling and hate-filled tirades against Trump and his supporters, I believe people have a good idea as to what you really are, and a liberal is probably among the nicer things that they call you. But kudos for trying to redefine the popular definition of a liberal.
What "name-calling" are you referring to, - or are you thinking about the name-caller-in-chief, Trumpy? I'm not known as someone with much hate in me, - but it is rather difficult to have much sympathy for someone as destructive as Trumpy, - to the nation, as well as the world at large. And, yes, - I am proud to call myself a liberal, - like every single one of my friends!
Jorgy-Peorgie, I rest my case. Since you like definitions, may I suggest you look up "self-delusion"? Remember, the first step to solving a problem is recognizing there is a problem. Maybe also look up "groupthink" since you only surround yourself with your interpretation of a liberal.

JFK must be turning over in his grave if he were to see what liberalism has become in the VS. Jorg also fails to mention his famous speech in which he exhorted us to do something for our country instead of the country doing something for us. Liberal policies of the last few decades have turned a large proportion of our residents into dependents of the State. Liberalism has been hijacked by the left and Jorg does not even see that. His progressive views mirror those of the failed economies in Europe where chickens are now coming home to roost.
You are not talking about the Scandinavian countries, are you? You can hardly find countries more liberal and progressive, yet more thriving economically and educationally, than Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland!
Come on Jorg, those countries combined represent less than half of California's GDP. The total budgets of San Francisco and Oakland exceed the GDP of the Scandinavian countries as well. I was referring to real economic entities such as France, Great Britain and Germany. BTW, I have been reading about some Scandinavian countries electing that are abandoning or curtailing their progressive programs. Sweden is a good example.

Jojo99: Very well put by one of my favorite philosophers! The explanation is obvious: if you are somewhat intellectually challenged, to put it nicely, you are not too eager to learn new things or to reevaluate your position when new facts are coming at you. Much more comfortable to stick with the old opinion and ideas you are used to. It also explains why conservatives tend to be more religious than liberals, and that the liberals are more in favor of education. Also, the 2016 election shows who’s more easily fooled, although many have come to their senses and realized how gullible they were.
Being liberal means being generous with other people’s money. Most liberals I know are very interested in the redistribution of wealth and love taxing the successful at rates that are socialistic. Most liberals I know also are the newest people in town ready to tell you what your doing wrong and care very little about traditions you may have. Liberals for the most part are nice people but they have a bad habit of telling you what you should be doing and they seldom mind their own business. Jorg- you definitely are a liberal. Your arrogance and inflated opinion of yourself makes you one of top liberals in our community. Congratulations on your self-aggrandizement, you are legend in your own mind.
It must frost your barnacles to realize that a real socialistic country may soon become the leading economic power in the world.
Not everything is about money, Chris, and if you are hard up, no one expects you to contribute beyond your means. Instead, be happy that you enjoy a far lower tax rate than those who make more than you do. But, since you seem to take issue with my statement on liberalism, and promote illiberal instead, I’ll save you the work of looking up the definition of the opposite of liberal: “intolerant, narrowminded, w/o liberal culture, stingy and not generous, vulgar, sordid, niggardly, miserly, closefisted, penurious, gripping, greedy, venal, shabby and avaricious”. However, I haven’t called you that, - it is your choice.
I'll add that it has become clear from the recent Senate Intelligence Committee's report, a Republican led committee, that Conway's description of liberals is an exact match of the Russian Intelligence agency's disinformation campaign description of liberal. Conway is no doubt proud to be a Russian "useful idiot" (their term, not mine), since he's in the company of those having been recently indicted, or soon to be indicted. Finally, taxing the rich works. It's taken CA from a deficit when Brown took over to a substantial surplus. Whereas Kansas...
