On Monday, April 1, Millbraens came together for a rally in front of La Quinta Hotel. This rally was to show support for Millbrae’s lawsuit against San Mateo County (A judge will hear the case on April 3 in Central County Courthouse, San Mateo).
Millbrae will argue its citizens have a right to vote on the county’s La Quinta supportive housing plans based on Article 34 of the California Constitution. Article 34 has been upheld in the state for 70 years now; it is an enduring constitutional amendment that cannot be ignored or modified without approval by state voters. Since state voters have not approved repeal or modification, Article 34 remains intact.
It is disappointing that county and state politicians are trying to work around voters because we are a “hassle.” True, democracy takes time and is a slower process, but it often results in better, fairer decisions.
Thanks for the update, Ken and Laura Smith. And more power to you. The next step is to vote out the folks in Millbrae who saddled you with this housing plan in the first place. It’s obvious they don’t think much of their citizens or their well-being.

A rally full of NIMBYs. For shame.
