Menlo-Atherton 4, Sacred Heart Cathedral 1
Senior right-hander Max Brubacher went the distance, allowing one run on three hits, at the Bears (8-11) claimed a non-league win at Sacred Heart Cathedral (8-13). Brubacher allowed one run on three hits and a walk while striking out five to pitch the first complete game of his two-year varsity career.
Brubacher capped a three-run rally in the fifth with a sacrifice fly to score senior Masataka Shudo. Lucas Ten Vanholt got M-A on the board with an RBI double. After Shudo reached on a bunt single, a Ten Vanholt swiped home on a double steal. In the seventh, freshman Jake Scott singled home a run for the Bears to make it 4-0. SHC’s Chasin Deninger RBI double the Irish on the board in the bottom of the inning, but Brubacher settled down to set down the last three batters in order.
M-A senior Jack Willbanks paced all batters with two hits.
Menlo School 12, Santa Teresa 2
Zach Roeder’s two-run home run capped a seven-run second as the Knights claimed a six-inning mercy-rule home win over Santa Teresa-San Jose. Menlo trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the first when Roeder’s RBI groundout tied it. The Knights then loaded the bases to start the second for senior Jack Freehill to give his team the lead with an RBI groundout. After a walk to Fletcher Cahill reloaded the bases, senior Chuck Wynn cleared them with a three-run triple. Freehill later provided the mercy-rule walk-off with a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth.
Junior right-hander Jalen Wong earned his first varsity win, allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts through five innings of work. Wong owns a 2.06 ERA through seven appearances this year.
Wynn logged two hits and paced Menlo with four RBIs. The senior is now tied for third in CCS with 26 RBIs on the year. Renner Barnett and Liam Widner added two hits apiece for the Knights, while senior David Hall led Santa Teresa with two hits, including a triple.
University 5, Woodside 3
With the game tied 2-all in the fifth, University-SF (11-8) jumped ahead on junior Leo Felder’s RBI single as Woodside (10-8) dropped the non-league road game in San Francisco. The Wildcats had chances in the last two innings. In the sixth, a one-on, two-out single by Cruz Torres saw the lead runner thrown out at third. Then in the seventh, back-to-back doubles by Hunter Taylor and John Tinson cut the deficit to 5-3 and brought the potential tying run to the plate, but university closer Matthew Foley entered to retire both batters he faced to end it.
Taylor went 2 for 4 with two doubles, Torres had two hits with a double and one RBI, and senior Anderson Comfort finished 2 for 2 with a double and two walks. Woodside has now dropped four straight.
Palo Alto 10, Burlingame 1
Burlingame (11-7) committed a season-high four errors as Palo Alto scored runs in each of the first five innings in non-league play at Washington Park. The Vikings led the whole way, scoring three in the first and three more in the second. The Panthers scored their only run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from senior Slade Flores, one of just three hits on the day for Burlingame. Paly starting pitcher Julian Rabbitt-Tomita allowed one run on three hits through six innings to earn the win.

Hillsdale 8, Capuchino 4
The Fighting Knights (2-5 PAL Bay, 9-9 overall) trailed 3-0 in the fourth, but rallied for three runs in the bottom of the frame to tie it on an RBI single from junior Jackson Snodgrass. Cap (2-5, 12-8) retook the lead in the fifth with sophomore Siaosi Kupu scoring on an infield error, but Hillsdale rallied in the bottom of the fifth to swing ahead on a two-run double from junior Parker Jessup. Starting pitcher Hugo Guzman took a no-decision with 4 2/3 innings of work, but went 3 for 4 with a run scored to pace all hitters. Jessup earned his first varsity win with 2 1/3 hitless innings of relief.
South City 9, Half Moon Bay 4
The Warriors (1-7 PAL Ocean, 7-13 overall) earned their first PAL Ocean Division game of the season, leading wire to wire at home against Half Moon Bay (4-4, 8-9). The Cougars closed it to 3-2 in the fifth on an RBI single from junior Riley Jackson. But South City got it back in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single by junior Diego Carranza, and broke it open with a five-run sixth, capped by a two-run double from senior Emilio Oseguera. The Warriors banged out 13 hits, with Carranza going 3 for 4 with three RBIs, and Dylan Munsayac and Josh Ornelas each tabbing two hits and an RBI. Jackson finished with two hits and three RBIs for HMB.
Design Tech 19, Pinewood 0
Junior Aidan Tom went 3 for 3 with a double, a triple and three RBIs, while younger brother Camren Tom fired an abbreviated two-hit shutout as the Dragons (9-0 PSAL, 10-6-1 overall) claimed a five-inning mercy-rule win at Pinewood (1-5, 1-8). Camren Tom, a freshman, allowed two hits and a walk, while striking out seven, through five innings of work in earning his first varsity win. Sophomore Tyler Liu added three hits with a double and an RBI for Design Tech.
Summit Shasta 22, North Valley Baptist 12
The Black Bears (7-1 PSAL, 7-5 overall) won a wild Private School Athletic League barnburner over North Valley Baptist-Santa Clara (3-6, 3-6) at Gellert Park in a game that saw three lead changes. With Summitt Shasta trailing 12-11 in the fifth, Ari Umali tied it with an RBI double to right, and, with the bases loaded, Dean Nunan got hit by a pitch to force home the go-ahead run. Shasta added nine runs in the sixth, walking it off on a bases-loaded walk to Nunan.
Jalen Mingao paced the Black Bears with four hits, five RBIs and five runs scored. Mingao has now recorded four hits four times in his last five games, and is now batting .750 (24 for 32) on the year.
