Editor,

This is regarding the Monday story, “High pay for Caltrain consultant.” As I read the story, this consultant posses such specialized knowledge that she commands an obscene pay day of $1.4 million for a years worth of consulting work to help get some projects “over the finish line.” This tax payer would like to know what specific skills and special powers this person has that would warrant what I suspect amounts to nothing more than basic project management duties? And where exactly did this person acquire these rare and special skills? This story is screaming for an investigation by the San Mateo County Civil Grand Jury. And if it turns out this person does not possess these special and all elusive skills then perhaps the county district attorney would like to take a peek as well. Perhaps Caltrain leadership would like to explain this before they ask us to go to the ballot box in November and vote on higher taxes.
