Now that Cindy Sheehan has pulled up stakes in Texas and put her "tell me why" circus on the road, I would like to thank her for reminding me of things I'm grateful for and why I serve my country in the Army National Guard.
I'm thankful to live in a free nation that would allow such cynical protesting even though I loathe those who do it. I will always be willing to put my life on the line to assure them that right.
Most of all I'm grateful knowing that if I should die in Iraq, I have a mother who would never do what Mrs. Sheehan is doing. My mother knows that I, like most soldiers, believe in helping the oppressed taste freedom. It's worth risking my life for. Thanks Mom! You're the reason at home that I'll fight for others in a land I don't even know.
