Editor,
When I read the July 12 article “Belmont to discuss Parks Master Plan,” it made me scratch my head.
Why are people complaining they didn’t have enough time to read the documents. What other work is needed? Do we really need months and months of more meetings?
The PROS Plan was over a year and a half in the making, and the city went above and beyond to make sure everyone had an opportunity to give input. In addition to the dozens of meetings, people got to meet and interact one-on-one with the parks staff and consultant at an open house event.
The PROS Plan is just that — a plan. It’s a framework and a document that sets out a vision. It’s not a set of blueprints to make final decisions on every detail of ever city park and every foot of trail in the open space. If citizens want to provide further input on specific items, the PROS Plan doesn’t close the door. Once specific actions are implemented, there will be more public meetings and plenty more chances for public input.
Councilmember Lieberman, please don’t hold up the plan just so a few politically connected people can micromanage the PROS Plan. Let’s get back to other important items of city business, like the Barrett Community Center project which has been sitting idle for a long, long time.
