I enjoyed Annie Tsai’s March 12 column in which included her thoughts about eliminating daylight saving time. She summarizes the argument succinctly: “They don’t call it ‘standard for nothing.’ Yes, parts of the year will have darker mornings. But … messing with nature means someone pays. And in this case, our brains pay every single time we mess with the sun’s dance card.”
She’s right, daylight saving time is worse for your health because standard time best aligns with our circadian rhythms. Extensive research confirms this, and go here to read some of the supporting articles: https://tinyurl.com/csabbtdr.
Oregon has passed a bill to end daylight saving time if California, Washington would follow. Let’s encourage our state legislators to do so. Not only will we sleep better, but our frustrating biannual clock-changing ritual will finally meet a timely end.
