I read your article about the "280 Monk" in the May 1 edition of the Daily Journal. Although I've never been to this rest stop, I heard of Mr. Morissette from an article several years ago. I was impressed then with this special person who would take on such a good cause, and thought it wonderful that others helped set him up with a trailer so he could live on the spot.
Every time I pass the rest stop as I occasionally drive by it, I think about him and have wondered if he was still there. Now I know. It is a shame that there were misunderstandings between Caltrans and Mr. Morissette, and I think tragic that he has been forced to give up his calling and his home! What purpose does this serve? No one is a winner in this that I can see. I think this was a great article - I would just like to see it distributed to larger publications and the media because I think this would result in a huge response from the public saying let Mr. Morissette stay and continue his community service work!
