Jorge Bahamondes, resident of San Mateo, passed away on August 25, 2024, at the age of 93, after a long and fulfilling life.
Jorge was born on February 22, 1931, in Santiago, Chile to Miguel and Uberlinda. Loving brother to Fernando, Gregorio and Ive, that still reside in Chile to this date.
Jorge and Diosy were married in 1953, they had four children: George, Pamela, Rita, and Alexander.Â
Jorge was an avid carpenter and woodworker, a passion that he passed on to his 2 sons, he worked tirelessly to build a beautiful home and most importantly to build friendships that lasted for decades. He was the head of maintenance for the Elks Club in San Mateo for over 35 years. After his retirement, besides enjoying time with family and friends, he enjoyed watching sports and tending to his garden daily and tinkering in his woodshop. Jorge loved attending the San Mateo Senior Center and sharing stories with his friends weekly.Â
Jorge was predeceased by his loving wife Diosy, his son George, his daughter Pamela and a grandson Michael.
He is survived by his children: Rita & Alexander, his grandchildren: Daniel, Jessica, Derek, Christoper, Ian, Maximo and Dahlia, and 7 great-grandchildren, Micah, Michael, Odin, Ruby, Forrest, Camilla, Jazmin. His extended family: Patricio, Maria Elena, Nancy, Isabel, and Stephanie. His loving cousins Cecilia and Juan Carlos Brecht, George and Betsy Del Fierro and families.Â
We would also like to thank all his friends and neighbors that he considered extended family, and his family in Chile.
Services will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 11:00 a.m. at Sneider & Sullivan & O’Connell’s Funeral Home located at 977 S. El Camino Real, San Mateo. Followed by interment at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery at 1500 Mission Rd. Colma, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the (San Mateo Senior Center), a cause Jorge felt strongly about to help local community members.
