Erna Koch age 95 of Redwood City died peacefully in the early morning of December 30, 2018. She is survived by her daughter Edith Strain her son Robert Koch her grandsons Jeffrey and Steven Strain and two great grand children Annabelle and Owen strain. She was born in Croatia on April 28, 1923 to Leopold and Katerina Rohrbacher. She also had a brother Otto Rohrbacher who preceded her in death. Erna was married to Eugene Koch also from Croatia for 43 years. She and Eugene along with daughter Edith and sister in law Gertrude Schlieker emigrated to the United States in 1950, settled in Fetters Hot Springs in Sonoma county and after a few years moved to San Francisco then after a few more years they moved to Redwood City.

Erna and her family became parishioners of Saint Pius in 1953. Erna was active in the women’s club in the garden booth at the festival and the rummage sale. She was an avid needleworker but found quilting and became a master quilter teaching classes throughout Northern California and winning many gold ribbons.
