SAN JOSE — A new center to help budding Irish businesses get a start in Silicon Valley has opened with the help of a grant from Ireland’s government.
The Irish Innovation Center opened Sunday in San Jose. Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen was on hand for the festivities, which included a bagpipe band serenading dignitaries.
The center will provide office space, event planning, administrative, financial and legal support and media connections for as many as 35 Irish technology start-ups. There already are 220 Irish companies that operate in the United States.
Like the rest of the world, Ireland has suffered from the global downturn. The country is hoping investment in technology will help economic growth.
