A work crew digging in San Mateo Tuesday afternoon ruptured a gas main two times over the course of six hours near a residence, according to PG&E officials.
Pacific Gas and Electric responded to calls of a broken half-inch plastic gas main in the first block of South Eldorado Street at 9:24 a.m., then again at 3:25 p.m. It was the same line but two separate sections, according to the utility.
PG&E representatives said a third-party contractor not affiliated with PG&E digging near the gas main hit the pipe with a piece of their equipment, which broke it.
The first break was fixed within an hour and responders were able to fix the second at 4:21 p.m., according to the utility.
There were no evacuations, injuries or additional structure damage as a result of the break and one customer was affected, according to PG&E
PG&E encourages anyone digging to first call 811 for assistance beforehand to avoid similar accidents.
