A 53-year-old woman was hit by a car at the intersection of Ninth Avenue and El Camino Real around noon Saturday, June 21.
The woman was immediately transported to Stanford Hospital where, according to a GoFundMe page, it was determined she suffered a broken pelvis, knee injuries and a broken foot and ankle. The page also said that she is “a single mother who is sending her children through college by herself” and “will be out of work for a while as she has to relearn how to walk.”
A San Mateo police spokesperson said the driver had the right of way and hit the woman while crossing the intersection on a green light. In February, a 56-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on Fashion Island Boulevard in a hit-and-run incident. According to data from the San Mateo Police Department, there have been about 22 pedestrian-vehicle collisions so far this year in the city.
