San Mateo officers arrested three people over the weekend for allegedly stealing household items from Target stores around the county, according to police.
On Sunday, officers allegedly found the suspects, all San Francisco residents, with more than $1,000 worth of items that they stole from two Targets. According to police, they had received a report of a theft in progress from San Mateo Target employees, who reportedly observed the suspects attempting to exit through a rear fire door at a Bridgepointe Parkway location with more than $800 of products concealed in a suitcase. According to the District Attorney’s Office, they stole 24 bottles of Tide detergent.
Police allegedly discovered that the suspects had visited a Target in Colma along Junipero Serra Boulevard and found $280 worth of items in their car.
The suspects were booked into the San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of organized retail theft. One of them was arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, police said.
They were identified by the DA’s Office as Andrea Appleton, 32, John Amos Gough Jr., 45, and Kayla Boutet Kunze, 39, all of San Francisco.
Defendants Appleton and Kunze were released on their own recognizance conditioned on staying away from the San Mateo Target Store. Bail was set at $10,000 for defendant Gough, and he remains in custody. The typical sentence for organized retail theft is three years, according to the DA’s Office.
