The trial for a man accused of being a co-conspirator in an embezzlement case involving nearly $2.8 million from a San Mateo homeowners association was delayed until Dec. 4 as his defense attorney addresses a family medical emergency, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Michael Anthony Medeiros is accused of working with Susan Marie Lambert, 65, to embezzle millions of dollars from the Woodlake condominium association in San Mateo between 2007 and 2013. Lambert was the manager of the HOA when she issued nearly 150 false invoices for property improvement work that was never done. Medeiros, then 58, owned a painting company and would cash checks and split the money with Lambert, according to prosecutors.
Lambert pleaded no contest and was convicted of embezzlement. She faces up to three years and four months in state prison for her plea deal. In November, she was released from jail to await sentencing. The judge who ruled in favor of her release indicated she wanted to wait to sentence Lambert until Medeiros completes his jury trial, prosecutors said previously.
