A fire that broke out early Sunday morning at Fiesta Market has led to the closure of several businesses in the Shoreview Shopping Center in San Mateo.
Located at 1442 Cary Ave., the establishment caught fire around 2 a.m. July 21, which likely originated in a refrigerator, according to a statement from Deputy Fire Chief Robert Marshall.
The fire has left several restaurants closed, including Aldo’s Pizza and Shore-Vu Laundromat. Mike Redman, Shore-Vu’s owner, said the nearby businesses have seen severe smoke damage to the building.

“It won’t be open for a while,” he said, adding that he hasn’t spoken to his neighbors about it although he knows some of them were also impacted. “I’m mostly worried about mine right now.”
The laundromat has been around for almost 50 years, Redman said, although they are lucky to have two other locations in San Mateo.
Several of the businesses will remain closed for the foreseeable future as an investigation into their electrical wiring continues. However, due to its more extensive interior damage, the market will likely take longer to reopen. Nail Resort remains open, as well as Godspeed Tattoo, although it did suffer a power outage for a few hours.
Other establishments in the shopping center include Maria’s Restaurant and America’s House. No injuries were reported, and the approximate cost of repair is about $1.5 million.
