A 40-year-old San Mateo resident has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and felony threat after allegedly attempting to stab a victim in San Mateo on July 4, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
The man, Guillermo Morales, allegedly got into a verbal altercation with a group of juveniles near the San Mateo Century Theater around 6:15 p.m. before walking toward a bystander, allegedly threatening him with decapitation before attempting to assault him with a knife, Wagstaffe said.
He was not successful in stabbing the victim, Wagstaffe said, and was subsequently charged with two counts of felony threat and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
Morales pleaded not guilty to the charges and his bail was set at $2,500.
