The trial for a San Mateo man accused of providing a fatal dose of fentanyl to a woman will begin in September and a judge has denied his request to be released from jail pending trial, San Mateo District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said Friday.
Pedro Armando Arellano, 26, has been charged with second degree murder for allegedly giving his girlfriend the fentanyl that led to her fatal overdose on Jan. 4 of this year.
According to Wagstaffe, Arellano is alleged to have been a regular user of fentanyl with his girlfriend, Adrienne Dahbour, also 26.
Prosecutors said Dahbour had previously overdosed twice and was revived with Narcan. Arellano had also OD’d at least three times.
“San Mateo PD officers admonished defendant at one of his overdoses that he could be charged with murder if he gave or sold fentanyl to someone who died from it,” wrote Wagstaffe in his weekly briefs sent to media about current cases.
On Jan. 4, Arellano allegedly gave Dahbour fentanyl and they used it together. Dahbour went to her parent’s house, where she lived in a detached unit on the property. Her mother found her in the morning in her bed, deceased.
Arellano is being held without bail.
