An evening fire at an apartment building displaced a senior veteran resident Tuesday.
North County Fire Authority crews called to the building at 420 Old County Road around 7 p.m. saw heavy smoke coming from the front of one unit and forced open the front door to contain and extinguish the fire.
The resident, who was uninjured, received housing assistance from the American Red Cross.
Firefighters searched other units but found no other damage or residents needing assistance.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the North County Fire Prevention Services Bureau.
