Belmont City Manager Greg Scoles announced the appointment of Capt. Tony Psaila as Belmont’s newest police chief, effective July 14, 2019. He will replace retiring Police Chief, Dan DeSmidt who has served as chief since 2012.
Psaila is a 30-year veteran of the Belmont Police Department and has served as one of the seconds in command of the department for the past six years. He is a product of the Burlingame school system, where he graduated from Burlingame High, and later earned a bachelor’s degree from Union University.
Psaila has managed the Police Department’s recruitment and retention efforts and is credited with keeping staffing levels and moral high.
Psaila now lives in Belmont with his wife Traci and two daughters, both of whom attended Belmont schools.
