A 26-year-old man is behind bars on no bail on accusations he stabbed a man outside a San Bruno hookah lounge and threatened to kill two tenants at his residence Thursday, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Facing five felony charges for his role in two incidents, Oscar Sanancastro did not enter pleas to three counts of attempted murder and two counts of felony threats when he appeared in court Tuesday, according to prosecutors.
At around 11:30 p.m. Jan. 17, San Bruno police officers were dispatched on reports of a stabbing outside the Paradise Hookah Lounge at 591 San Mateo Ave. Sanancastro allegedly stabbed a man in the back, puncturing his lung and sending him to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The victim, who was released from the hospital not long after the alleged stabbing, claimed he didn’t know Sanancastro prior to the incident, according to prosecutors.
Sanancastro is reported to have returned to his residence on the 400 block of Angus Avenue and threatened to kill two other tenants who lived there. He allegedly approached two neighbors with a knife — whose doors were partially open — and stabbed the bedroom door in one of the tenant’s units after the alleged victim slammed it shut, according to prosecutors.
Police arriving to the scene allegedly found Sanancastro a short distance away from his residence and with a large cut on his finger. He allegedly said he was drunk and didn’t remember anything he did, according to prosecutors.
District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said Sanancastro has no prior record with the county, and the county’s private defender program was appointed to his case when he appeared in court Tuesday. He will next appear in court Jan. 29 for appearance of attorney and entry of plea, according to prosecutors.
