A 31-year-old Vallejo resident accused of acting as a woman’s pimp is facing up to one year in county jail after he pleaded no contest to felony attempted pimping Monday, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Rico Fernando was arrested in 2016 in part of a joint-agency operation aimed at stopping human trafficking in the county. Police contacted the woman through an online advertisement and arranged a meeting for sex at a motel. Fernando is said to have driven the woman to the motel at 3160 Casa De Campo May 6, 2016, according to prosecutors.
Out of custody having posted a $25,000 bail bond, Fernando was previously convicted of residential burglary in 2010 and will next appear in court May 17 for sentencing, according to prosecutors.
Fernando’s defense attorney Thomas Greenberg declined to comment on the case.
