Chilly winds. Freezing roadways. And maybe even snow. That's the weather forecast for most of the coastal Bay Area this weekend.
The National Weather Service said Thursday that an Arctic front spread across the San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas and drove temperatures below freezing levels this morning.
And forecasters predict the icy weather will continue this weekend as cold temperatures sweep in from the Gulf of Alaska across Northern California.
This means snow could fall down to 2,000 feet above sea level in the mountains and hills of Santa Cruz, Monterey, Santa Clara Valley and the East and North Bay.
Accumulating snowfall could drape higher elevation roadways, such as state Highway 29 in northern Napa County, the summit of state Highway 17 and Skyline Boulevard in San Mateo County, the National Weather Service reports.
A few snowflakes could also drift closer to sea level as the cold airmass intensifies Saturday, the National Weather Service reports.
