The San Mateo Public Library hosted an Iranian New Year celebration on Sunday.
The New Year or "Nowrooz" (meaning new day) celebration signifies the changing of seasons from the end of winter to the start of spring. This new year marks the new Persian calendar year of 1398.
The program included a Persian traditional and folkloric music ensemble and performances by a Bay Area Persian dance group. In addition, children recited Farsi poetry.
