An 82-year-old Woodside resident was rearrested and arraigned Aug. 6 after a Criminal Grand Jury indictment last week on 12 charges of child molestation against four separate victims, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
Alan Russell, a retired attorney, was originally arrested August 2023 on child molestation charges but posted a $2 million bail. Now, he’s been arrested again without bail, for now — his defense lawyer has made a bail motion that will be heard Aug. 15.
Russell allegedly molested children of family friends on vacations and trips between 2004 to 2006, Wagstaffe said, with another victim coming forward with similar allegations of abuse from November 2023. He’s been charged with oral copulation and fondling.
After multiple motions to continue from Russell’s defense, Wagstaffe said the DA’s Office took the case to a grand jury. All four victims testified, Wagstaffe said, and the grand jury ultimately decided to indict Russell — meaning they found enough probable cause for the DA’s Office to seek a trial.
“We want to see justice in this case. We can’t have a case that goes on three, four years,” he said.
