Fifty local agencies are sharing $23.5 million in federal funds to help workers laid off due to economic downturns find new jobs, Gov. Gray Davis announced Wednesday.
The grants will allow the agencies to provide quick information about new jobs and training to workers who lose jobs when business cut back or close.
He said the "rapid response" provided through the grants will help get people back to work.
Davis also announced that 11 local social agencies will be getting a total of $1 million to help create housing for people with developmental disabilities.<
