The boyfriend of Tiffany Li, a Hillsborough woman charged with conspiring to murder a Millbrae man, was assigned $35 million bail Tuesday, according to San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.
The judge assigned Kaveh Bayat, Li’s 30-year-old boyfriend who has been accused of pulling the trigger of the gun that killed Keith Green, who was the father of Li’s two children, with the same bail assigned to Li, according to prosecutors.
In April, the 31-year-old mother posted $35 million bail by putting up several Bay Area properties valued at $62 million along with $4 million in cash. Li, who comes from a wealthy Chinese family, has Chinese citizenship and was previously considered a flight risk, posted one of the highest bails county prosecutors have ever seen, amassing 15-20 Bay Area homes and businesses to be turned over to authorities should she flee the country, according to prosecutors.
Li, Bayat and Olivier Adella, a 41-year-old Burlingame man who’s been accused as the muscle behind the crime, are facing murder charges in the shooting death of 27-year-old Green, with whom Li was alleged to have a custody dispute at the time of his April 29, 2016, disappearance, according to prosecutors.
Almost two weeks after he met up with Li at a Millbrae pancake house the evening he disappeared, Green’s body was discovered near a Sonoma County homeless encampment May 11, according to prosecutors.
Wagstaffe said it was mentioned during Tuesday’s hearing that Li’s family has been paying for Bayat’s defense. The three defendants will next appear in court July 17 for pre-trial conference, according to prosecutors. Bayat’s defense attorney John Halley declined to comment.
