A judge dismissed a motion from attorneys representing Ron Galatolo, the embattled former San Mateo County Community College District chancellor facing 23 felony counts, to dismiss charges for perjury and conflict of interest against him, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
Galatolo is accused of directing district construction project contracts to people from whom he received valuable gifts and shared financial interests, allegedly misreporting tax information and allegedly trying to get the district to pay for his lawyer’s fees, according to the DA’s office. He maintains he has done nothing wrong.
On Sept. 18, the judge and lawyers representing the District Attorney’s Office and Galatolo will discuss scheduling, Wagstaffe said. On Sept. 29, a hearing on trial motions will begin.
Though the case timeline will depend on the judge’s preference, Wagstaffe said he was hopeful opening arguments in the case will begin before the end of the year.
