Belmont police say a bizarre accident that ended with a car perched over a steep ravine began when an 85-year-old man's foot slipped off his brake pedal as he backed down his driveway.
The man was apparently unable to apply the brakes to stop his car, which was also carrying his 85-year-old wife. The car rolled backward down the driveway, across the road, through a neighbor's fence and yard and then onto a deck.
The car eventually became wedged between a deck post and the neighbor's house, delicately suspended over a 30-foot ravine.
