San Mateo 5, Half Moon Bay 1
The Bearcats (3-1 PAL Ocean, 10-4 overall) turned in their second straight pitching gem to sweep a two-game series in PAL Ocean Division play from Half Moon Bay (3-3, 7-8). San Mateo returned home Thursday to ride a complete-game victory from right-hander Jesus Olivas. The junior allowing one unearned run on four hits and a walk, while striking out seven. His record improves to 4-1 with a 2.78 ERA.
With the score tied 1-1 in the third, San Mateo jumped ahead on a two-run double from junior Jesus Calderon. The Bearcats scored twice more in the fourth on back-to-back RBI singles by Hunter Brandt and Wilson Morales. Morales and Olivas finished with two hits apiece. HMB sophomore Paxton Holden went 2 for 3 to pace the Cougars, while adding two stolen bases.
Olivas’ CG effort comes on the heels of senior Christian Louie allowing one run on one hit over six innings in Tuesday’s 3-1 victory in Half Moon Bay.
Arroyo Grande 5, Terra Nova 0
Terra Nova (7-7) managed just one hit on the day, as 6-5 senior Thomas Winterberg fired five innings of one-hit ball, and junior Zack Johnson closed it out with two hitless frames on the third day of the Atascadero Spring Break Tournament. Senior Tanner Bournoville and freshman Brock Paz each homered for Arroyo Grande (14-4). Senior Evan Wilson singled in the second for the Tigers’ only hit.

Mercy 9, Half Moon Bay 5
Mercy-Burlingame (3-0 PAL Lake, 11-2 overall) scored in each of the first five innings to top Half Moon Bay (3-1, 7-7) in a battle of PAL Lake Division unbeatens at Cuernavaca Park. Mercy upped its lead to 6-1 in the fourth on freshman Fefe Alusa’s inside-the-park home run. HMB rallied for three runs in the top of the fifth, cutting the lead to 6-4 on an RBI single by Tessa Deeney. The Bears got all three runs back in the bottom of the frame, with a two-run single from freshman Sienna Molina, followed by a bases-loaded walk by freshman Olivia Eastburn. Mercy sophomore Isabel Reburiano led all batters with three hits.
King’s Academy 6, Mills 0
With the game deadlocked 0-0 through four innings, the King’s Academy (4-1 PAL Bay, 7-4 overall) broke through with four runs in the fifth in the win at Mills (1-3, 7-4), sparked by junior Hannah Woo’s two-run double. Senior left-hander Katia Nesper did the rest for the Lady Knights, facing two over the minimum to record a one-hit shutout with 16 strikeouts, pushing her Peninsula Athletic League-leading strikeout total to 122 on the season.
