Christian Louie fired his second consecutive gem, working six innings of one-hit baseball Tuesday in San Mateo’s 3-1 win at Half Moon Bay.

The Bearcats (2-1 PAL Ocean, 9-4 overall) prevailed in a battle of left-handers, as Louie outdueled HMB senior Kai Kung. San Mateo’s senior southpaw allowed on run on one hit, three walks and a hit batsman while striking out a career-high 14. Kung took the hard-luck loss for the Cougars (3-2, 7-7), allowing three runs (none earned) on six hits to take the complete-game loss. Senior right-hander Tyce Copus fired a flawless seventh to earn his second save of the year.
Amid a scoreless tie, junior Hudson Brandt led off the fourth inning with a single for San Mateo. Brandt later scored on an infield error, and junior Julio Calderon drove in a run on a fielder’s choice. The Cougars closed it to 2-1 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by junior Clark Colucci. The Bearcats got the run back in the sixth on an RBI single from Calderon.
Calderon tabbed two RBIs, while Louie led all batters with two hits. Junior leadoff hitter Riley Jackson singled to lead off the bottom of the first for HMB’s only hit of the afternoon.
