Man dies in early-morning shooting, may have been case of mistaken identity

The fatal shooting of a 26-year-old man as he was getting off a bus in Daly City on his way home from work early this morning may have been a case of mistaken identity, a police sergeant said. Alexander Temaj Castanon lived about two blocks from where he was gunned down shortly after midnight at Mission Street and San Jose Avenue, Daly City police Sgt. David Mackriss said. Castanon had just stepped off a 14-Mission San Francisco Municipal Railway bus after his shift at Baby Blues BBQ on Mission Street in San Francisco when he was shot once in the head, Mackriss aid. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said two males were seen running from the scene afterward but no arrests have been made in the case. Mackriss said Castanon is not believed to have been involved in a gang and his killers may have mistaken him for someone else, but the motive for the shooting remains under investigation. Castanon's death is the city's second homicide this year. On Feb. 7, 21-year-old Jessie Wiley was struck and killed by the driver of a sport utility vehicle following a fight at a pizza joint. Police labeled Wiley's death a homicide because they say he was hit intentionally.
