Pet Tips

If you’ve had surgery, you know how quickly doctors have us rehabilitating repaired (fill-in the body part). Pet professionals have a similar philosophy and discourage dogs from having lazy post-op periods. Lucky for us, we have a local facility for our pets, Scout’s House, in Menlo Park. As their tag line reads, "A full-service rehabilitation center for animals.” If you’ve visited Kepler’s or Cafe Barrone, you may have driven right past Scout’s House. It’s on the part of Santa Cruz Avenue, east of El Camino Real, and a stone’s throw from the popular book store and cafe. Using equipment and techniques similar to those at rehab centers for humans, Scout’s House can improve the quality of life for your dog, whether he’s recovering from surgery, lost strength in a particular area or experiencing pain from arthritis. My favorite part of Scout’s House – a hydrotreadmill. The warm water helps relax tight muscles and its buoyancy decreases the weight bearing on joints, making it possible for pets with conditions such as arthritis to have a comfortable, yet aerobic workout. Looking for weight loss, sports conditioning or a quicker recovery from surgery for your best friend? Check out Scout’s House.
